Why Is My Photo Scan Missing Photos?
A scan can only inspect media it can access and read. Even then, detection can miss explicit content. Check access and availability before assuming the result covers your whole library.
1. Check what you allowed the app to see
On iPhone or iPad, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos and choose Sensitivity. If access is limited, the app sees the selection you permitted. You can keep that boundary and review additional items yourself, or change the selection. Full access is a choice, not a requirement for every task.
Read the Photos permission guide for the difference between a selected library and a whole-library review.
2. Check the scan scope
Review the date range, media type and scan options you chose. A photo scan is not a video scan. A selected folder on Mac is not the same source as your Photos library, and separate exports may live outside both.
3. Check whether the original is available
With optimized iCloud storage, some originals are not stored locally. If iCloud downloads are disabled in Scan Options, those items may not be available to scan. If you allow downloads, Apple Photos may need a working connection and time to fetch them. The download comes from Apple; Sensitivity does not upload your media for analysis.
Try opening the item in Photos. If Photos cannot load it, resolve that availability problem first. Avoid deleting the original or changing iCloud settings just to troubleshoot a scan.
4. Look for interrupted or unsupported items
Check the app’s progress and any messages about skipped or unsupported media. An interrupted scan does not establish complete coverage. A file the app cannot read is not a negative detection. On Mac, confirm the chosen folder or drive remains accessible.
5. Allow for imperfect detection
Sensitivity looks for likely explicit content. It does not identify every private document, conversation or personal moment. A classifier can miss explicit media and flag harmless images. Video analysis can also miss a brief scene. Review important items yourself even when a scan returns no matches.
Understand false positives and detection limits.
Still need help?
Use Sensitivity support. Describe the device, system version, app version, scan source and the message you saw. Do not send private photos or videos. A description of the problem is enough to start.
